Now, you may not know
this but Grocery stores stock fairly well in advance. When you all are picking
out turkeys for Thanksgiving, we have Christmas candy waiting to be displayed
in the back. New Year’s Eve? We already have Valentine’s Day stuff delivered.
So with Memorial Day on the horizon, we got a lot of patriotic stuff in. Fred
took to hanging all the American flags from the top of the building. He even
attached floral balloon weights to the bottom so they would not flap
tremendously in the wind. To those in the know, a national flag hung upside
down is a signal of distress. Zombies milling about aren’t going to notice it
but perhaps a military convoy rolling north or south down Highway 82 might. I
was really proud of him for that idea.
He asked me for help
so I grabbed Alex and the three of us went to the roof to go to work. As we
were working, Alex pointed out that we missed the release of IRON MAN 3. I can’t remember the actual
release date for that movie but there was a pretty good chance that we missed
it because we were still hip deep in zombies… Funny how stuff can slip your
mind.
Alex and I are both
big comic book fans. Alex thought that THE
AVENGERS was the best movie ever. I
know it is kind of dumb to lament the loss of not being able to see a movie –
especially when we are surrounded by nothing but death and destruction. I
cannot tell if this is his way of letting go of the world that once was or if
it is his attempt to cling to the world that we have lost. Either way, I don’t
know if I should be happy or sad…
