Back on Monday, June 17th,
at our big morning meal, our group took a vote. I was reluctant to reveal it
until we saw how it could pan out because I didn’t want to bolster anyone’s
confidence out there and make them think they could do this too but Brad’s
arrival from ACE has caused us to rethink our situation.
We are planning sortie strikes out
into the outside world.
Now,
I want this kept in mind. We have military trained personnel in Fred Cox and
Kasondra Taylor. We have weapons obtained from a local police station with high
quality ammunition. If you are reading this, don’t go out all half-cocked
thinking, “They did it. So can I!”
We have also been practicing for this
first run with what they are calling “Sweeper Teams.” I think they have a good
system. It is a five man team with one member covering each quadrant. Sweeper
One (Fred) covers from 12 to 3, Sweeper Two (Joe) covers 3 to 6, Sweeper 3
(Kasondra and crudely nicknamed “Big Lick”) covers 6 to 9, and Sweeper 4 (Luke)
covers 9 to Noon. The fifth man (Kanen) stays in the center of the team with
interchangeable weapons, passing out freshly loaded weapons to whoever is in
need. The goal is simple. Tight units and you don’t break ranks. The goal is
get out and see what all is out there.
The first mission involves the group
loading into the back of my Hunter’s pickup that he will drive with Lance
riding shotgun. There are three target areas that we are looking to hit and get
back inside.
1) Southern Elms Resort: There is a
really nice, upscale bed and breakfast style resort less than a few miles from
us that should have cabins full of mattresses and fresh linens. I used to drive
past the place all the time but could never afford to stay there. In fact, when
my wife and I were having marital difficulties, I really wanted to spend some
time there as a couple but cash always seemed to be in short supply. The
tourist season in Langley had not hit big yet so we cannot see the place being
very populated because of its isolated woods and lake location. Sleeping on an
actual mattress could do everyone good. Thankfully, we can get there via the
backroads and probably avoid any large contingents of zoms.
2) Rame Hunting: Kind of the local
pawn shop and stop for fishing and hunting supplies. Shotguns, pistols, ammo of
all kinds, shells, .22 rimshot. This place could be a gold mine if it hasn’t
been looted yet. Plus, Hunter is extremely interested in the fishing gear. If
we could barricade the Disney and Langley sides of the Pensacola Dam, we could
add fresh fish to the menu.
3) Dollar General. Socks and underwear
are not meant to be worn for two months.
Those are the three targets for now.
We don’t want to get greedy and overreach. And the question you have to ask yourself
is: Is the item you are targeting worth dying for? I will make sure to comment
tomorrow on the events and how everything panned out.
More soon…
