Day 37 – Fortress of Solitude: A Beacon in the Darkness

Back in the tin foil entry of these Fortress of Solitude articles, we talked about how you had to be a hole in the world, especially in the darkness. Well, we had a huge problem when it came to the parking lots lights. Businesses before this apocalypse – take any gas station, convenience store, Walmart, things like that – at night, these places were always lit up like high noon. They want their places to be lit and inviting to customers. I remember driving past our store at night and you can see it from miles away.
So, in keeping with our theories, we made it a point to get to the timers that automatically turned the parking lot lights and the exterior store lights on and off. We have spent many nights up on the roof looking out on Langley with binoculars and through rifle scopes. Since we have started shutting off our lights, we often see less numbers of zoms shuffling around at night.
However, across the way, Party Mart convenience store shares our parking lot has a section of covered gas pumps that are clearly set on timers. The Sonic Drive In across the way (man, I miss their Java Chillers) is all lit up with their fluorescent lights. There is exponentially more zoms milling about in those parking lots than in ours that is tucked up tight. Lance and Hunter tried to shoot out the lights at the gas station but the height of our roof does not present us with the right angle to shoot them out.
Fred and Tommy have this theory though that they want to bait these zoms once we get more of an upper hand. They want to get more supplies and then create a bit of a kill box to lure these zoms in and take them out.
If we do this long enough, in theory, we should be able to clear out most of Langley. We cannot account for the rogue zom staggering about or the roving hordes that could be shambling down the highways.
So if you are reading this, snuff the porch lights. Black out the windows. Do what you have to do to go undetected by sight.
