I was wondering what
all to chronicle when it came to September and it is only now that when I stop
and look back that I realize that September was a pretty freaking good month.
Granted, it is still the zombie apocalypse outside but things were better when
you look at the month as a whole.
Store stock levels
are still good and we have even supplemented some fresh meat into our diet by
way of fish from Grand Lake. We have crews go out and fish from the Pensacola
Dam which logistically is a pretty safe place to fish from.
We have elevated our
level of games to keep us all occupied and warding off cabin fever. Obviously
the biggest social event of the month is the “marriage” of Brad and Kasondra. A
good time was had by all. Janet couldn’t stop crying. And in the midst of all
this madness, having a wedding in the center aisle of Reason’s was completely
over the top on the absurdity level… but completely worth it for everyone’s
morale.
On a personal level,
I have found myself growing increasing fond of a certain member of our little
group. I don’t know if anything will come of it. Probably not. But I think that
it is evidence that even in the greatest of tragedies, we can start to get back
to normal once we get back to even keel. Granted, roving undead cannibal can
leave you listing to port or starboard pretty severely but, eventually, you can
get the ship righted and back sailing true.
Back in Week 2, we
did see a small caravan of vehicles drive past. They didn’t stop and they came
and went quickly but it gives me hope that there are still pockets of
civilization out there. If we can unite and beat back this scourge of undead,
then there is a chance that we can get back to rebuilding humanity.
Of course, we cannot
find them just sitting here. Now, do not panic. We are not abandoning the Year
One plan. That will still be in place but, like I mentioned yesterday, we are
considering sortie runs to give us a gauge of the outside world.
Plus, like the Starks
of Winterfell warned us, “Winter is coming.” It always seems like in Oklahoma
we have long winters, longer summers, and fall and spring both last about a
week. We will be gearing up for winter soon. After all, with no fireplaces and
chimneys, if the power does go out, even with the generators, we could have some
serious issues. Proper planning is going to be the key.
So, in review,
September was a pretty good month. Maybe the best month we have had since this
whole thing started. Now, we just need to keep that train rolling. Stay safe,
everyone.
More soon…
